We all suffer from tooth pain from time to time. While tooth sensitivity is common, severe or persistent pain may be indicative of a more serious problem such as an infection or tooth decay. In some cases, the tooth may need to be removed to prevent further pain and infection.
At Buderim Dental Surgery, our team of skilled and experienced dentists can offer you a range of tooth extraction services at an affordable price. We understand that losing a tooth can be a traumatic experience which is why we strive to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Painful & Infected Teeth?
At Buderim Dental Surgery, we are dedicated to your oral health and wellbeing. While we will always try to save your tooth first, there are some cases where extraction is the best course of treatment.
If left untreated tooth decay can cause serious infection which may lead to pain, swelling and even tooth loss. In some cases, an infected tooth can also affect your overall health!
If you are experiencing severe pain or sensitivity, it is important to see a dentist as soon as possible. You may need a tooth extraction if:
- Advanced tooth decay
- Infection or Abscess

What To Expect During Extraction
Don’t let tooth decay and impacted teeth impact your health. With the extraction of teeth with our team of expert dentists, you can enjoy long-term oral health and an improved smile!
The process of getting a tooth extracted may vary depending on the severity of your case. A simple extraction is when the tooth is above the gum line and does not require surgery to be extracted.
if the tooth has broken off at the gum level, is infected below the gum line or is partially impacted, a surgical extraction may be required. Here you will be given a local anaesthetic to numb the area prior to a small incision being made. The gum will be pulled back and the tooth removed.
My Tooth Has Been removed, What Now?
After your tooth has been extracted, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your dentist. This will help to ensure a speedy and complication-free recovery. You can expect some swelling and discomfort after your procedure which can be managed with painkillers prescribed by your dentist.
Depending on your oral health we may suggest dental implants to replace the missing tooth. Dental crowns, bridges and implants are just some ways where missing teeth can be replaced in your smile. We can assess your oral health and determine the best treatment for your oral health needs and goals.

Your wisdom teeth are usually your last to erupt—third molars that appear very gradually between the ages of 17 and 25 years. However, everyone has different timing! Not every person gets them so sometimes they fail to grow in, or they may become impacted (stuck). Wisdom teeth often come in at an angle instead of straight up and down. So it is possible for them not to come through your gums—which means you don't have wisdom teeth!
If you don't have enough space in your mouth for these third molars, wisdom teeth can crowd or even block your other teeth. You also risk having damage and decay occur on the adjacent second molars because food and bacteria may build up around their roots. Impacted wisdom teeth can contribute to gum disease and cysts; impactions within the jawbone can cause pain and swelling as well as joint problems if infection occurs.
Most people do not have problems with their wisdom teeth. If these molars erupt without difficulty, your dentist or oral surgeon may recommend simply watching the tooth to make sure it doesn't cause a problem. However, if a wisdom tooth is partially visible and it's difficult to clean properly, you may need to have it extracted. So ask your dentist about your specific situation at your next check-up.
Wisdom teeth may not grow in properly and become impacted, which means they do not break through the gum tissue. Food and plaque can build up around the roots of impacted wisdom teeth, causing infection, gum disease, cysts ,and even tumors . If an impacted wisdom tooth is left untreated, it could damage the surrounding teeth or cause a cyst or tumor to form.
